Thoughts at Random

- Look closely… some skywriter drew a smiley face in the sky over Los Angeles one Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago. And people hate this city. Come on.

- In my NBA Awards column, I didn’t have Carlos Boozer as high as My Roommate because the Jazz struggled down the stretch. He pointed out that Boozer was still great. Well, he was right and is right- but look what happens when Mehmet Okur doesn’t do anything offensively (down 0-2 to Houston). His scoring was down in April, too, and the Jazz had a losing record. Yes, this doesn’t really matter for All-NBA Teams, but I would just like to point this out.

- You wanted it- you got it: Now it’s time to dig deep down into your soul and ask the Coreys whatever you want.

- I’m only doing this as a favor to My Roommate. He’s been singing this song for months. It’s his favorite song and his favorite hobby. So, without further Adu, here’s My Roommate’s Jam of the Year:

- Oh, and here’s Kobe Bryant’s favorite song:

- Look’s like one person almost saw what I saw this year in the Coach of the Year voting. (Pat Riley one 2nd Place vote)

I don’t like the way you try to play the fence or pacify me or my argument on the NBA Awards post by acknowledging his greatness and then immediately discount boozer’s impact by trying to insinuate that being down 0-2 to a Rockets team is because “the real leader” Okur isn’t showing up.

Let’s get this clear. Bosh and his Raptors are already down 1-0 to a lesser seeded Nets (a fact you chose not to post). Boozer’s Jazz are down to a lesser seed that would have been better recordwise if not for Yao missing games (I’d be shocked if you disagree with that). And Boozer and Williams are keeping the games tight with a slumping AK and a couple bad shooting nights from Okur (whose still playing well in every other area of the game… 10 boards, 4 blocks, 6 assists last night)

Fine you like Bosh more then Boozer. I love Bosh. I think he’s great. But now is not the smart time to try to argue your Bosh is better then Boozer case. The NBA playoffs have done nothing but strengthen my argument thus far. That may change. But Boozer is showing how underrated or taken for granted he is because of his injuries, non-lottery hype, and seemingly “boring” game. He’s as good or better then Bosh.
Trying to cite the playoffs is only supporting Boozer’s case as the better player right now, even if the Rockets sweep them in 4.

I don’t like that you use the front page of your board to try to get the last word. Cause as it stands now, I’m looking more and more right with each passing game.

equally as interesting…. how bout that isiah thomas got a third place vote. someone actually thinks he did the third best coaching job in the NBA.

it just goes to show how far the mighty have fallen when exceeding expecations in a big way is the following:

    - a losing season with the highest payroll in the league

    - coupled with a late season collapse dropping them out of a weak Eastern Conference playoff race

With that kind of payroll, it should be a given that they are a top 4 team in the East every season. But I guess making it through a season without the general manager and coach sniping at each other through the media is a huge step. But then it is the same person. But hey…. Go Knicks!

Wow- did you pick the wrong time to doubt Chris Bosh. In the Game 1 loss, Chris Bosh played 34 minutes. During that time the Raptors outscored the Nets by 14! Yes, 14!

The Raptors lost by 5, so do your math. That is a ridiculous difference. Truly shows his MVP prowess.

god are you an idiot. i’m not slandering bosh. I’m saying the facts aren’t with you on the bosh is better then boozer debate we hashed out during the awards post based on the playoffs. and they aren’t.

    Bosh- 1 game
    (22pts, 5rbs, 1 ast)
    Boozer- 2 games
    (11pts, 12rbs, 1ast)
    (41pts, 12rbs, 6asts)

the numbers no matter how you spin them don’t back you up. most of it is because boozer’s already played a second game in which he dropped a career type night. I’m not saying Bosh won’t outdue him. What i’m saying is you chose to throw out your backhanded slap at Boozer at the stupidest time, and I responded. You tried to lessen my argument on the front page instead of contesting me here where I can respond and I reacted.

now you’re just spinning. if one other poster who reads this regularly sides with you that Bosh has outperformed Boozer in the playoffs thus far, I’ll never post again. It’s just not true though. Boozer’s team is 0-2 against a Rockets team that would mop up the Nets. And the Nets are 1-0 against the Raptors that despite playing well as a team with other guys showing up around Bosh (unlike a non present AK and slumping Okur) The Raptors still couldn’t win. 14 points or not! They STILL lost! as did the JAZZ! the argument means nothing when comparing the two guys which is what we’ve been doing this whole NBA awards debate. Why not mention his community work. It’s equally as irrelevant to my point of contention with this post….. which as I’ve said for the third time now is that you are picking a stupid time to try to cut down Boozer after he just had a huge night.

Let’s get something clear. Bosh for MVP is and will continue to be an absurdity. He makes no more sound of a case then Boozer. Neither of them are MVP’s. But we’re not debating MVP. We weren’t then and we aren’t now. We were debating who is more deserving of the higher spot on the All NBA team selections we made. I said they had basically a parallel statistical year, although I wasn’t on the Bosh MVP wagon like you seemed to be and I picked Boozer over Bosh after turning to team record and intangibles after the individual numbers washed out.

What I’m saying now, is that if I was picking a forward based on the playoff evidence I have right now, I would pick Boozer. And so would any logical person. He just went 17-30 with for 41 points after posting double digit rebounds consecutive nights. That could all be different after Bosh’s next game, but for the fourth time this post, you picked a crap time to make your Boozer backhanded complement.

Stop ignoring the facts you don’t like. when it’s suited to you, you use stats. when it’s not, you don’t.

when it’s convenient for you case, you make a jab at Boozer because he couldn’t win when the talent around him plays bad. That’s a mark against him now that you felt should be pointed out. But then you turn around and say Bosh should recieve more praise because despite his team losing more in the regular season, he’s still excelled and did it without weapons around him lightening the load. Which is it Dan? Is the performance or contributions of the team around the player relevant to a comparitive debate between Bosh and Boozer or is it not?

oh…and from your 14 points! source…. nice spin.

Perhaps you missed this from their site:

    “PlusMinus or +/-:
This shows how well the team did compared to the opponent while he was in the game. It is calculated by comparing the score when the player enterd the game to the score when the player left the game for each stint. In this case the Lakers outscored the Clippers by 7 while Slava was in the game. It should be noted that this is more a team stat than an individual one, but it is interesting to look at. “

So by that logic, if Bosh comes in a game when Vince goes out, and the Nets offense gets stagnant, while the Raptors deliver at their same level of efficiency, that’s apparently due to Chris Bosh. Sound argument there douche. Just to highlight the point you should have made I’ll requote:

“It should be noted that this is more a team stat than an individual one, but it is interesting to look at.”

  7. 7 Daniel-san

    Duly noted.

But I’d just like to say there is no hiding. I post on the main page and if in the comments I am made to look wrong, then so be it. That is the reader’s space.

Much of what is written on this page is subjective and the opinion of one Daniel-san and no one else. If anyone takes what is written here as PURE FACT then go watch Fox News. They will give it to you straight. (or MSNBC)

Remember, you can always change the web address (although we truly appreciate your valuable time you spend on Sports at Random)

  8. 8 your roommate

    duly noted…..

I just like to point out what I view as hypocrisy when I see it, and if you choose to post what I view as half truths and slant, and then join me in critizing the voices in the media that do the same thing on other posts, that will almost always illicit a response.

No one has to care or agree mind you, but I don’t like to see you fall under the same traps that other “media voices” due who hide behind their most visible/heard statements in a way that minimizing or trivializes dissenting voices.

  9. 9 your roommate

and more so, i don’t have to like that you choose to continue a debate that we had on the front page without giving me a chance to respond in kind.

it’s your site, but it’s still horseshit.

  10. 10 Daniel-san

    You want a voice?

Write up something and email it to me.

    Or start a web site.

Or just post in the comments section.

  11. 11 your roommate

    “You want a voice?

Write up something and email it to me.

    Or start a web site.

Or just post in the comments section.”

i did. you posted it as a discussion on the front page. that was fine. we both shared our views. Then you decided you had to get in some more of your own thoughts connected to the same post on the front page without giving a chance to respond.

if you want me just in the comments section fine. but don’t use my comments that you had framed as a discussion between to the two of us as fuel to continue a one sided debate on the front page using me as your whipping boy. that’s not what I agreed to when I participated in the NBA Awards entry.

You’ll run your site the way you want but don’t solicit my opinions by telling me it’s a back and forth and then blatently abuse the spirit in which they were given by not letting me continue to the debate. That’s not what I agreed to. I agreed to a discussion.

If your company decided to reappropriate the music I made for the movie to use for other reasons wihtout my consent, I would have the same problem. It’s the same principle.

  12. 12 your roommate

by your logic, if we were in politics debating one another, at the end of a debate, you’d get your closing statements, and then they’d shut my mic off, but I’d be free to yell to the crowd and hope it had the same impact.

as i said before…horseshit. this will continue to be your site, but running it like you did with this entry only makes you a coward whether i say it on the front page, here where less will see it, or not at all cause you eventually decide to censor me

  13. 13 your roommate

see now would be the time to make your statements. here’s some humbling quotes from espn’s articles this morning:

“Bosh could be credited for the new and improved “VC sucks!” chants directed at Vince Carter, which seemed louder and lustier than they did in Game 1.

He was part of Anthony Parker ’s much-improved stroke, which looked smoother than a Vegas con job.

He aided Rasho Nesterovic in his impersonation of a loose ball magnet.

Most importantly, he helped best pal T.J. Ford overcome his own Game 1 struggles and contribute significantly to the win with 13 points and six assists.”

I’d like to rescind my vote for Boozer over Bosh on the NBA Awards page….. I mean what with Bosh being responsible for everyone’s success (except when they lose of course- then he can’t be blamed because it’s on his teammates).
