ESPN at Random

Another great post from our boy Puja:

“Oh, to be a fly-on-the-wall at ESPN. I mean, I’m not saying anything… I’m just saying:

ESPY Award Hosts
1993: Dennis Miller
1994: Dennis Miller
1995: John Goodman
1996: Tony Danza
1997: Jeff Foxworthy
1998: Norm Macdonald

“Oh sh%t, no black people/minorities of any kind!”

1999: Samuel L. Jackson
2000: Jimmy Smits
2001: Samuel L. Jackson
2002: Samuel L. Jackson
2003: Jamie Foxx
2004: Jamie Foxx

“Okay, it’s back at 1 to 1… we can ignore ‘them’ for a while again.”

2005: Matthew Perry
2006: Lance Armstrong”

I showed this to my ESPN Source and all they had to say was:

“Tony Danza’s a minority.”

Sports Guy at Random

I am not here to attack Bill Simmons.

Ok, saying that, doesn’t he seem to think he’s “too cool” nowadays? His drinking and partying stories are getting annoying. Two of my top sources work with the NBA and with ESPN. The ESPN source flat out called him “a drunk” and when I asked the source to clarify, they said “…obviously during Super Bowl Week or All-Star Weekend you’re going to be out drinking, but if you’re in your 30’s, you shouldn’t be falling down in the hotel lobby and then writing how much you drank in your column.”

Also irking this ESPN employee was all of the people in ESPN who take the opinion of this “drunk” as gospel. The source says, “If he has a suggestion, then we automatically do it, so that gets annoying.”

Now, my NBA source, who loves him, said he wasn’t even invited to, according to his latest article, “the most underrated party of the weekend”, the Tech Summit on Thursday night. But, since he is Bill Simmons (whatever that means), he got in.

Now, this isn’t going to turn into my William Wesley, but if I ever have any other information, I’ll pass it along.

Saying all of this, I still read EVERY word of EVERY one of his columns. Looks like he is worth more than the millions Yahoo! offered.
